What is the difference between a record and verbatim?

Great question! In short, a record (or row) is one entry in a data source, where as a verbatim is specific to the number of open ended responses found in your data set.

In many cases, you'll also find that the total number of records doesn't match the total number of verbatims which can happen for the following reasons (sometimes both!):

  1. The respondent has chosen not to answer a verbatim question

  2. A record can include more than one verbatim (e.g. if there are multiple open-ended questions)
